Consider the Birds

Recently I encountered a cardinal three times on my morning walk. These cardinal sightings made me curious about their significance. So I did a little research.

According to the book, Animal-Speak, by Ted Andrews (1993), the cardinal represents renewing vitality. This means being intentional about diet, exercise, and self-care, which impacts overall well-being. Wow – how interesting that I am currently in need of renewing vitality in my life!

So, what is vitality? In The American Heritage® Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, vitality is defined as “physical or intellectual vigor; energy.” Wow again – no wonder I have been low on energy lately. The message is clear: my vitality is definitely in need of renewal!

Now, what does the Bible have to say? Matthew 6:26 in The Holy Bible, Today’s New International Version (2005) states, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (p. 1178). Yes – I believe I am! As I consider this portion of scripture, I am reminded to trust God as He leads me in renewing my vitality and restoring my energy.

What about you? What does renewing vitality look like in your life? Please let me know your thoughts – I look forward to your comments.

Here is one last reflection on the significance of the cardinal. Author Ted Andrews says: “Add color to your life, and remember that everything you do is of importance” (p. 124). What a great reminder to be colorful, live on purpose, and make a difference!
